Happy New Year from Save Our Happy Place your weekly pop of environmental & climate activism! We hope you had a joyful and triumphant holiday season. Instead of hitting the ground running, we want to take this first week of 2022 to connect with the “why” behind the work we do in the climate movement. With the stress of the holidays, covid, and the pressure of creating a happy new year, and a happy new you - let’s take a moment to destress with our happy places.
Happy Places for a Happy New Year
Nature & Mindfulness to Put Your Best Foot Foward in 2022
To kick off the new year we’re channeling the origin story of Save Our Happy Place. In moments of quiet meditation while being prompted to imagine my happy place - my mind would always go to my family’s backyard, a recent outdoor vacation spot, or my favorite nook in Prospect Park. As I’m sure it does for you too, the great outdoors has always brought me solemn, peace, and joy. In order to bring our best selves to the climate movement this year, let’s take a moment to connect to our happy places. Whether you’re imagining them, visiting them, or finding new ways to support them, connecting with nature has documented benefits.
Exposure to nature has been linked to improved attention, lower stress, better mood, reduced risk of psychiatric disorders and even upticks in empathy and cooperation. - American Psychological Association
