Pushing Through the Build Back Better Act & Finding Gratitude for the Climate Movement
Hey there sunshine! Welcome to Save Our Happy Place - your weekly pop of environmental & climate activism. We hope you had a joyful and restful Thanksgiving holiday. We took time to truly reflect on our gratitude for you, our Save Our Happy Place community, for all the work you have put into saving our planet so far. Now let’s finish out the year strong.
Here are 4 climate actions you can take in approximately 5 minutes.
Budgeting to Build Back Better
Who, what, when, where, why, how?
The good news - the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Build Back Better Act through the Budget Reconciliation Bill which includes $555 billion to fight climate change. The bill is now on its way to the Senate for its vote.
If passed by the Senate, the Build Back Better Act will create millions of new well-paid jobs in the clean energy economy. It would also put the U.S. on track to achieve its emission reduction goals, preventing the worst effects of climate change.
What can we do to see this through?
Currently, one democratic senator stands in the way, Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Demand that he votes YES on the Build Back Better Act.
Ask your senator to vote YES on the Build Back Better Act.
Protect Our Oceans and National Parks
Tell Congress to keep our ocean trash-free by supporting low plastic legislation
What? Send a message to your Congress members with The Ocean Conservancy asking Congress to support the REDUCE Act.
Why? The REDUCE Act will put a fee on new single-use plastics which will encourage companies to use more recyclable content and reduce the number of new plastics created.

Tell Congress to protect Alaska's parks from destructive mining
What? Send a message to Congress with the National Parks Conservation Association to permanently protect the area from future mining.
Why? A proposed mine at the Bristol Bay watershed would cause exponential damage to the national parks in the area and keep the U.S. from meeting its carbon emission goals.
